I decided last weekend that one of these fabrics would be excellent for a try-out sleeveless Laurel and I started cutting out the pattern, just like that. The fabric is a brown silk-like polyester, with beige and olive green dots, really cute and a little sixtie-ish. I finished the neckline and armholes with ready made black bias binding, the binding at the neckline still shows, but I'm thinking about turning it inwards as well. I think it might make it look more as a whole. The armholes seemed tiny at first but after finishing with bias tape it looked OK.
This is my second Laurel after this one, and I think it is so versatile. It is slightly wide but I decided to leave this version like this, so I didn't have to put a zipper in and can wear it with a belt, or not.
I decided to enter it in The Sew Weekly Reunion Pantone challenge (last minute), so here are...
The Facts
Fabric: 1 meter of designer sheen shirting dots lime/brown, polyester, Fabric.com
Notions: black bias binding from the market, thread from the stash
Pantone Challenge colors: I would say a mix of linden green and carafe, I hope it counts!
Pattern: Laurel from Colette Patterns
Year: 2013
Time to complete: about 4 hours, including finishing the insides with bias binding, spread over one weekend and a few evenings
First worn: birthday party of my husband
Wear again? Definitely! I love how versatile Laurel is and the colors are excellent for autumn. I can wear it to a party with a pair of high heels and my hair up or to work with tights and ankle boots and a cardi.
Total Cost: $2.99 for the fabric (excluding custom fees..) and $2.00 for the bias binding, so $5.99.
Btw: I'm getting really jealous at those photo shoots of Adey of the Sew Convert and Sewbon.. Next time I'll ask my hubbie to do a (semi pro) photoshoot, for now, here are some selfies with the NEX 6:)
